Within a week of the start of the Macworld Expo, Apple has updated the Mac Pro with two of Intel’s new Quad-Core Xeon 5400 processors running at up to 3.2 GHz.
That’s a lot of juice! If you don’t understand what having eight cores means in the real world, let me explain it simply: it will suck your brains out through your eyeball sockets if you aren’t careful.
Here’s the link to the specs on this new monster (up to 4 terabytes of hard drive space!).
Why would Apple release something this huge before the Expo? Why not save it for the keynote speech? A new Mac that has essentially doubled in speed is a big deal! The answer is obvious: Steve Jobs has a lot to talk about on Tuesday, so this Mac Pro is just the tip of the iceberg.
What next big thing has Apple been working on? Whatever it is, we’ll all be chatting about it on Tuesday afternoon.
(I’ll offer my Macworld Expo predictions on Sunday.)
