Technology: Good to the Last Drop

A coffee maker that adapts and learns according to our coffee drinking patterns and adapts? Now there is an example of technology being put to good use! Check it out: Here’s an excerpt:

What will it be like to use such a machine? “For the first several weeks, the machine learns the drinking patterns of its users. Then it adapts. Every Sunday afternoon, it’s French vanilla cappuccino time. Each weekday morning, it starts brewing a triple espresso at 7:00 am. After dinner, it does up a creamy decaf café au lait.” How does it know where you are or at exactly which moment you’ll be ready for your drink? Pappas is tight-lipped about this aspect, the crux of his invention, but he hints at GPS tracking…

Vista Causes DELL Customer Revolt

Vista, the Ho Hum Version

This is hilarious. Apparently, DELL customers got tired of printers and other peripherals not working with Windows Vista on their shiny new DELL computers. They’ve demanded that DELL stop pre-loading Vista on new PCs, and instead they want them to put the most functional version of Windows XP they can find! Who would have thought we would see customers asking that the latest version of an operating system NOT be included on a new computer!

OS Wars

Apple announced today that they will not release OS X Leopard until October. Bummer. But like I said below, Tiger is a perfectly great OS, so I’m happy till then.

With the Leopard news, you may have missed the quasi-huge announcement from Terra Soft that Yellow Dog Linux 5.0.1 is shipping for Macs. I guess this is for those who like the painful process of going BACKWARD in operating system technology.

Online Color Wheel

Color Wheel

I’m always looking for a quick way to find the hexadecimal HTML color codes for a quick CSS fix. This site has a interactive javascript thingy that allows the user to mouseover and pick the color code they need. It gives the web-safe, web-smart, and unsafe options.

Great tool!

Should You Wait to Buy a Mac?

Mac OS X Leopard

With the upcoming release of Mac OS X Leopard, it may be hard to decide whether or not to buy a Mac now or wait until the new OS is released and comes installed.

Here’s the thing with a Mac OS release: Unlike its Windows counterpart, when a major new OS comes out on the Mac, it isn’t there to fix a lot that was wrong with the previous version. The current Mac OS, Tiger, is a great environment to run all your apps. It’s not broken, and if you buy a Mac now with Tiger installed, you don’t have to worry about having an “outdated” version of the OS. Trust me, it will feel new. Tiger is quick, sleek, and responsive.

Thinking of putting a Mac on a credit card? Now THERE’S a reason to wait. Save up and pay cash, dangit!

i want an -iPhone-!

Welcome to 98 Pound Geekling! And thanks to my brilliant wife for the title!

“I want an iPhone” is a good way to start out a technology blog, since everybody is saying it. But I won’t just be covering Apple’s iPhone. Also look for tips, links, and news about all kinds of gizmos, gadgets, computers and tech toys. I’ve been a Mac user since 1990, so you can assume that I’m committed (or should be), though I know enough about Windows to give a fair share of advice to the poor masses who have sold their soul to the devil in Redmond.

I’ll be posting a few times a week, depending on what’s happening in the technology world. Things stay fairly interesting, so 3-4 posts a week should be pie. I’m open to any forwarded stories, links, and noteworthy tidbits if you have them! So send them to me by putting them in a comment on my author page.

Welcome, those of you coming over from, my other blog on Christian spirituality. And no, I’m not bald anymore… that was about 6 years ago. 🙂
